As time ticks slowly into the night
And darkness slowly invades my sight
My body slowly loses the fight
And my soul finally takes flight
As senses change from fire to ice
And I pay the ultimate price
I think back on what I have lost
And find my life had a veiled cost
“Calm down. Come down so lost am I.
I’ll need you to find the underground.
So now exhale, break from your mold
and join me for time eternal.”
Heaven nor Hell they would not take
My chain to life not meant to break
The links sheared through by dagger sharp
A snapped string on Life’s golden harp.
Silence echoes within my head
Then music wakes my spirit dead
And as I watched notes part the sky
I heard Death sing a lullaby
“Calm down. Come down so cold am I
I’ll lead you to winter underground.
So now exhale, release your hold
and join me in life eternal.”
I smile and take his outstretched hand
Watched him grin, then help me up and
Take me to doors that open wide
And show the view the shadows hide
Silver sand shone and glittered bright
Scattered across the endless night
Death picked one up and held it to hang
At my neck, turned to me and sang
“Calm down. Come down lonely am I.
I’ve brought you to rapture underground.
So now exhale, breathe in the cold
and join me, My Love Eternal.”
